Angie's Percent Post

A percent is an equivalent fraction out of 100.

100% means 100/100
To find 100% you divide by 1.

50% means 1/2 or 50/100
To find 50% you divide by 2.

25% means 1/4 or 25/100
To find 25% you divide by 4.

10% means 10/100
To find 10% you divide by 10.

1% means 1/100
To find 1% you divide by 100.

Converting Percents, Fractions and Decimals

3/40- First you divide the numerator by the denominator. Then you multiply the decimal by 100 to get your percent. 
3 divided by 40 = 0.075
0.075 x 100 = 7.5%

5.98- First you multiply by 100. To find the fraction, you count the amount of digits there are. In this case there are 3.
5.98 x 100 = 598%
The fraction would be 598/100.

750%- First you divide the percent by 100. You divide by 100 becausena percent is equivalent to 100 so you have to do the opposite operation.
750 divided by 100 = 7.5 
In this case, it would be 7 1/2.

20% of 60
20 divided by 100 = 0.20
0.20 x 60 = 12
20% of 60 is 12.

0.1% of 40
0.1 divided by 100 = 0.001
0.001 x 40 = 0.04
0.1% of 40 is 0.04.

250% of 400
250 divided by 100 = 2.5
2.5 x 400 = 1000
250% of 400 is 1000.

Question 3 on page 148

A. 15 ÷ 100= 0.15, 0.15 x 200 = 30, 30 + 200 = 230

B. 10 ÷ 100 = 0.1, 0.1 x 230 = 23, 23 + 230 = 253

C. 25 ÷ 100 = 0.25, 0.25 x 200 = 50, 50 + 200 = 250

68 ÷ 2 = $34

Store B - 25% off one day followed by 25% off the reduced price the second day
25 ÷ 100 = 0.25
0.25 x 68 = $17
$68 - $17 = $51

$51 x 0.25 = $12.75
$51 - $12.75 = $38.25

Store A is a better buy.
